It means you have to state the goal and have it in the back of your mind but focus on the system. I’d have to recheck the book, but I believe Clear does talk about having a goal in mind but then put your effort into the system because it is the system that makes you successful. It undergirds the goal.

Whatever Clear says in the book, I believe it is essential to be clear on the goal first and drill down on what you want. That makes the systems you come up with more effective no matter what you’re trying to achieve, whether getting out of debt or being the best writer on Medium — the goal comes first. Does that make sense?
